defeated
在这里过去分词做后置定语.表示已经被击败了的意思.
A不对是因为to defeat是及物动词,要有宾语,也就是the young man要有打败的对象.
B不对是因为defeating表示正在打败,打败谁呢?没宾语,再说defeat是瞬间动词,一般不能表示正在打败的意思.
D不对是因为be defeated这种省to不定式不能做定语,而这里是要一个定语.
