I love the Dromaeosaurs (or commonly known as,"Raptors",as my name should suggest, lol! They're my favorite theropods out of the Coelurosaurs (the group of carniverous and bird-like dinosaurs that encompasses the Tyrannosaurs, the Dromaeosaurs and, correct me if I'm wrong, the Troodonts.)!My reasons are the same as yours! They're intelligent, though I tend to sympathize with the Tyrannosaurs because of a friend of mine that happens to be "one." lol.
The truth is,though the Dromaoesauridae were "gifted" and more advanced than most other Dinosaurs, they're intelligence was probably only equal to that of modern birds,or,perhaps, smarter.Jurassic Park exagerrates on their intelligence possibly for Suspense and "Scare Factor." In fact, most of that behavior was instinctive.
The Cretaceous animals were "smart!" I'm NOT they weren't,but they were not THAT smart.
Second of all,Ian.Intelligence doesn't ALWAYS mean success in Evolution.Sure, they could have handled the changing environment of the Active Cretaceous Earth differently, but unless you have certain gift or trait that allows you pass on your genes to the next generation, your going to die off.Hence,Natural Selection. In fact, there was no telling how life was going to evolve after the KT Extinction.Even if they DID survive, they may not EVEN be the Dominant species.See what I'm saying?
Believe me,Utahraptor was a VERY Cool Dinosaur,and a very big,nasty dude!
