would rather+从句,是一个常用的虚拟语气句型.
这句话陈述时应该是 You wouldn't rather( your children went to bed early).括号里是个句子.
would rather do sth有,但是加的不是句子啊.
比如I would rarher go to bed early.

would rather在后接从句时要用虚拟语气。
1。跟现在相反，或将来实现的可能性小，用过去时。
2。跟过去相反，用过去完成时。
你这句话是跟一般情况相反，所以要用过去时。

这个是你把两个句型搞混淆了，不算是虚拟语气，应该是两种固定句型：
1、would rather do sth
2、would rather sb did sth
两者都是表示喜欢，意愿等。看看中间插入了一个别的主语所以就是有不同了~呵呵`~我可是在牛津字典上找到的解释哦`
