要分清指代词究竟指代什么,一般都是向前找,而且通常情况下离指代词越近的越有可能.这整个句子里“that”后面是从句,修饰“edvidence”.这个从句里主语是“the desirability of events”,谓语是“affects”,后面adaptational outcomes和amounts of change是并别的成分.要找“they"指代的是什么就是要往前找一个复数的名词.这整个句子里面其实就只有events,amounts和outcomes.“that they require”本来就是定语从句,that是指代了amounts了所以they肯定不是修饰它的.outcomes本来是它的并列成分肯定也不是修饰它,所以they就是指代events了.如果你把句子看简单点看成“the desirability of events affects the amounts of change that they require”也许就好理解点了.
