这个句子应该是有问题的,不知道楼主是在哪看到的.时间状语When the fire broke out in the basement,是过去时态,主句had gone to put out the fire immediately是过去完成时,表示动作是在火灾发生前就扑灭了,这显然不合理.而且immediately是立即,与完成时态能一起用,这是否合适是个问题.正确的句子应该是When the fire broke out in the basement,Tom went down to put out the fire immediately.
