请教一道GMAT SC
In the mid-1920’s the Hawthorne Works of the Western Electric Company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments (to investigate what the effects changes in working conditions would have onworkers’ performance.)
这句话括号里的部分是错误的,书本给出的原因是what从句中无谓语动词,would have 是定语从句中的谓语动词.我想问的是定语从句是指哪里,该如何理解呢?

亲~~这是我从CD上copy的某个大牛的讲解~
A:what自身就是一个实意名词,如:what is ur name?(主语what、谓语is、宾语ur name),E中what与the effects共存,犯了双主语的语法错误.若改为:
to investigate what(做have宾语) changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance
或:
to investigate the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance
则正确,后者更优,因为what界定范畴过于宽泛,不如the effects更具针对性

这个句子的谓语动词是investigate,她的宾语是what effects would have on workers‘ performance。changes in working是做effects 的定语,所以要加一个of,意思就是工作中的变化产生的影响。
所以我觉得应该是to investigate what effects of changes in working condi...
