应该是省略 if one had (not one) but two heads and neither required sleep 是 而是 的意思 如果一个人不是有一个而是有两个头,而且两个头都不需要睡觉 不是语法,而是英语中常用到的but的一个用法

其实你不用记别的，这里就把它理解成“而是”的意思 翻译在不同的句子里就随便了，用法也很随意 比如 i love no one but you 我只爱你不爱别人 如果非要总结的话，就是否定but前面的，肯定but 后面的，表示强调 其实也挺常用的
