因为在这句里面you是make作用的对象，smell terrible则是对make对you所造成影响的一种补充，而且宾语是名词或者代词充当的，smell terrible明显不符合这一条件。严格说来you要和make联系在一起分析，而you smell terrible放在一起分析就不行了。
