Knowledge and Experience Knowledge or experience,which one do you think is more important?Some one may choose knowledge,while others may pick experience.In my opinion,both experience and knowledge are important.Let鈥檚 make a comparison.In most cases,we obtain knowledge from books and teachers,which are very important and useful.Because it can help us know what we cannot understand by ourselves.We can learn a lot of things that will never happen nowadays,and we can know more about our history.We can also develop our analytical skills and learn about the past by getting the knowledge in the books .We can also learn from others and will not repeat the mistakes made by others.Thus we can make great achievements.But there are so many things that we cannot experience by ourselves,so it is very important for us to experience them by reading and understanding the knowledge from experienced persons.If we are lucky,we can also visit places of interest to experience instead of reading indoors.We can invent some new things on the basis of their experience.Now,what we are learning is from books in school,but we are laying the foundation of the future practice.By and by,knowledge enriches us and our minds are open.Experience is important.As we know,knowledge sometimes cannot always be right.Without practice and experience,we cannot find the correct answers.Experience helps us build our confidence.Having enough experience,we will not be so afraid and nervous when we are in trouble.Experience is priceless.The other way round,knowledge comes from practice and experience,from everything we learn.Experience makes our life colorful.Meanwhile we will get more from it.Owing to experience,the way to success seems much shorter.So we say experience gives us useful knowledge.If one wants make progress,it is necessary to learn more ,practice more and experience more.We see,we know; we learn,we understand; we do and we master .In this point,knowledge and experience are both very important.Now,an unforgettable experience suddenly comes to my mind.When I was just a middle school student,one summer holiday,I stayed at home feeling bored.When watching TV,I ran into a proramme which was about how to make an ice-cream.I was so attracted that I decided to have a try.The teacher on TV was explaining and showing how to make one.鈥淭o make an ice-cream,we should use three or four eggs.First we should wipe out the yolk and keep the white,then stir it with a stable strength.Put some chocolate powder into it.After that,keep it in a fridge for three hours.That was ready.鈥 When watching it,I felt it was very easy to do.So I didn鈥檛 pay much attention to it.A few days later,I wanted to make one by myself.I did as she did.But to my surprise,I could not stir the white well.So I gave up this time.I had to watch the programme again in order to make one ice-cream.From what I had experienced,I found it was very important to know all the details when learning knowledge,but I failed to do so.I did it one more time before long after watching the teaching programme again,and success came at last!I felt great!From this experience I understand that a man without knowledge and experience cannot achieve his goal successfully.We should remember that knowledge and experience cannot be separated from each other.Let me give you another example.As is known to us,in our country,regardless of experience,people usually pay much attention to knowledge in books.The knowledge in the books is certainly very important,but we should put theory into practice.Comparing American students with Chinese students,we may find that the American students do better than our Chinese students in practice,for they have both more experience and knowledge.Since they were born,they have already been taught to learn both knowledge and practice.On the contrary,the Chinese students get better marks in the exams,but do worse in practice because of the shortage of experience.Now,things have changed.Having realized the importance of experience,they begin to combine knowledge with experience.Of course,not every part of our country does so,but we are changing.It is a kind of good phenomena.Libraries are opened to the students and the Internet helps us learn more information.Parents and students change their attitudes towards the way in which a child should be developed,too.They know experience is as important as knowledge.That is to say,practicing more will help us gain more experience.Many kinds of media enrich and refresh the students鈥 knowledge and experience.Their minds are open and they are doing better and better.Many of them have the intention of going abroad to learn more useful knowledge and gain more experience by themselves.So if we can work with both knowledge and experience,we will do better.Remember experience is the mother of knowledge and knowledge lights the flame of life.We need both of them.It is unwise to put stress on knowledge without practice,because knowledge without practice is like the water coming without source,a tree without its root.In practice,we get improved.On one hand,knowledge comes from life.People summarize and refine what we do in our life.On the other hand,knowledge becomes a guide to experience,for it is the theoretical basis of practice.Can you guess the result?It is that we cannot make a success with only one of them and we cannot overcome difficulties when we get into trouble.Having only experience but no practice,we cannot succeed either.There is no doubt that some experience of knowledge may lead us to a wrong place,but we can correct it by consistently practising it.No practice,everything is just like a paper plan and lack of contents.Alfred North Whitehead once said,鈥淭he tragedy of the world is that those who are imaginative have but slight experience,and those who are experienced have free imagination.鈥 I want to put it in another way.鈥淭he tragedy of the world is that those who are knowledgeable have but slight experience,and those who are experienced have little knowledge.鈥 It is obvious that knowledge and experience are twins.They are related closely to each other.As time goes by,we may forget many things.But experience will stay forever in our memory.Knowledge is not printed in books.It comes from our experience and practice.In a sense,experience is more important than knowledge or knowledge is more important than experience.In another word,they cannot be separated.We cannot work with only one of them.We must connect experience with knowledge,summarize and pick as we learn.Only in this way can we get what we want to have.In conclusion,knowledge and experience are our food and nutrients.Our life will be more perfect,more fruitful,and wonderful.
